I’m Chabeli Carrazana, The 19th’s economy and child care reporter. I’ve been an economy reporter for a decade, getting my start at the Miami Herald and then the Orlando Sentinel. At The 19th, I’ve crafted a different kind of economy beat. In my work, you’ll read about the women and LGBTQ+ folks who make up the majority of the nation’s low-income workforce and a growing portion of small business owners — a group often invisible in news coverage. As the granddaughter of a former child care worker, I’m honored to be one of the nation’s only child care reporters, bringing you stories you won’t read anywhere else about how child care policies — or the lack of them — are changing people’s lives.
